Newsletter Week of January 21st

Pastor’s Piece
I am in the Holy Land as you read this.  Today we are in the Galilee (northern) region of Israel, where Jesus grew up and did most of his ministry.  Many of the teachings of Jesus that we have recorded in the 4 Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John took place while Jesus was in the Galilee region.  When Jesus told stories and taught, He often referenced specific locations or we are told that the story happened in a particular place.  The locations that are mentioned are not mentioned by accident- there is nearly always a reason that the Bible includes these details of location.  They are included because they add an element to the story or the teaching of Jesus that the author thought was important.  For this reason, the Holy Land is often referred to as the 5th Gospel- because the land has much to tell us about how we interpret His stories.  Our plane arrives back in Missouri on Friday, and I will be glad to be home with my family.  I will also be very excited to see you all again and begin our new sermon series, which will be called “The 5th Gospel.”  Over the next 6 weeks I will help you experience the Holy Land through photos and video of the land itself, and we will be unpacking the teachings and stories of Jesus that happened at these sites and why they are so meaningful to Christians to this day.  Join us Sunday, and invite a friend for this exciting and educational series, “The 5th Gospel.”
Blessings,
Pastor Andy
