Good News for Wednesday, April 14

Pastor’s Piece

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”   -Philippians 3:12-14

This is the counsel that the Apostle Paul provided the church at Philippi-  keep moving forward.  Keep growing in grace and in the knowledge and love of Jesus.  And in the verse right before this passage, Paul says that somehow, in trying to become more like Jesus, he hopes to share in Jesus’ resurrection.  Keep moving forward.

Sometimes moving forward requires us to stop some things, or to let parts of our life go.  Often there are bad habits or patterns of behavior that we need to let go of.  But just as often the things that God asks us to let go of aren’t “bad,” they’re actually quite “good!”  It is much more difficult to let go of the good things in our lives in order to grow in our love for Jesus than it is to let go of our bad habits.  But this is exactly what Jesus requires of us time and time again- we must let go of one thing in order to grow in Him.  In the sermon on Sunday, we’ll be taking a look at our lives and the places and things that Jesus is calling us to let go of in order to grow in His grace and love.

Also, I wanted to let you know that those who are joining us online can find us back on this week!  Thank you for transitioning to Facebook last week while we made some upgrades.  I’m sure you’ll appreciate the new look and sound of the livestream this week.  Join us in person or online at 9:30am, or you can also view the recording of the service later (usually by 6pm on Sunday night) on our website

 Blessings in the wilderness,

Pastor Andy Blacksher
